DOMA Vigil March 26th in Rochester

Come to the "Rochester DOMA Vigil" outside the Federal Courthouse, 100 State Street on Tuesday, March 26th at 4:30. Bring signs or candles and listen to speakers as we bear witness to the historic significance of the start of oral arguments before the Supreme Court on the constitutionality of The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and
Proposition 8.

This event is part of the national "Light the Way to Justice" campaign which seeks to draw attention to the historic gravity of these cases and influence the thinking of the Court as it ponders the expansion of equal rights for same-sex couples.

Background:

Inspired by Cleve Jones and David Mixner, leaders of GetEqual, Marriage Equality USA and Equality Beyond Gender have called for a nation-wide peaceful show of solidarity and love March 25 - 27 to generate hope and create change.

National organizers point to the President's inaugural speech reference to "Seneca Falls, Selma and Stonewall" as illustrating that this historic moment in time is not just LGBT specific but is part of the universal advancement of human rights.

Local Rochester events are being organized by a collaborative group including representatives from Equality Rochester, Pride at Work AFL-CIO, New York Civil Liberties Union, The Gay Alliance, Metro Justice and more.
