Pride at Work Mourns the Passing of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka

Pride at Work is saddened to hear the news of the passing of AFL-CIO President Richard L. Trumka. President Trumka dedicated his life to fighting for working people across the country and around the world.

He was an ally to LGBTQ working people as well, speaking loudly and often about the need to pass the Equality Act and other LGBTQ inclusive legislation. Within the labor movement, he was an advocate for LGBTQ-inclusive contracts and reminded union leaders of the need for better inclusion in our ranks.

“Richard Trumka was an ally to the queer community, a rock and leader in our labor movement,” said Pride at Work National Co-President, Shellea Allen. “He will be missed.”

The Pride at Work National Executive Board, our members, and our staff send our heartfelt condolences to President Trumka’s family and loved ones.
