As we celebrate Juneteenth, it is crucial to reflect on the parallels between the historical fight for freedom and today's challenges. The right to vote, a foundational right in our democracy, continues to be under threat, particularly for Black communities. Systemic racism and structural inequality rooted in the legacy of slavery and white supremacy still hinder the full realization of democratic rights for all.
